Although not signed to any major label, PENICILLIN impressively releases three mini-albums throughout the year on Tokuma, Nippon Crown and Vap.

PENICILLIN releases their sixth single "Romance (ロマンス)", which is used as an opening theme to the cult anime comedy series Sexy Commando Gaiden Sugoi yo!! Masaru-san (クシーコマンドー外伝 すごいよ!!マサルさん). It becomes their best-selling single to date as it reaches number 4 on the Oricon charts, and becomes the 36th best-selling single of the year in Japan.
PENICILLIN release their fourth full length album "Ultimate Velocity", which, presumably due to the success of "Romance (ロマンス)", becomes their best-selling original album to date. It reached number 2 on the Oricon charts and stayed in the charts for 5 weeks.
PENICILLIN leave east west japan, and instead sign to the indies label omega A.T. music.
PENICILLIN sign to HiBOOM, which is a sublabel of Avex Trax.
