This limited-time supergroup was created as a marketing tie-in with the PlayStation snowboarding game R Rock'n Riders.

The story of that game is that the fictional band R will be playing a live which the “SWAT” police forces are trying to shut down. The members of R must reach the livehouse (via snowboarding) in time without being caught.

(In-game, each character also represents and has their move-set based on a real-life Japanese snowboarding champion.)

Each member of the fictional R is based on a real musician and those musicians came together in real life to record a single and album as R. The PlayStation game also includes a second disc with a digital photoalbum of the real life R.
