L'Arc~en~Ciel release their 21st single "Spirit dreams inside -another dream-", which is certified gold. The band, whose status has been kept silent since the end of 2000, didn't announce official hiatus. However, all members officially started activities on their solo projects right after the release of this single, and this date has been retrospectively identified as the beginning of L'Arc~en~Ciel's hiatus.
HYDE sends a letter to the rest of the band stating his intention on leaving, due to what he felt was stagnation in the band starting around 2000. Since the rest of the band didn't want to replace him with anybody else, L'Arc~en~Ciel was set to disband in 2002. However, TETSU would later meet with HYDE to hash out any differences, and the band then decided to stay together.
"Clicked Singles Best 13" wins the "rock album of the year" award at the 16th Japan Gold Disc Awards.
