L'Arc~en~Ciel become a major act and sign to Ki/oon Music.
L'Arc~en~Ciel's third album, "heavenly", is their first release to be certified platinum.
Their follow-up album, "true", is their first album to sell over a million copies.
Dr. sakura is arrested for possession of heroin, and is then kicked out of L'Arc~en~Ciel. The group then go on an indefinite hiatus.

L'Arc~en~Ciel simultaneously release their sixth and seventh albums, "ark" and "ray". Both albums go on to sell an astonishing 2 million copies each.
L'Arc~en~Ciel release their 21st single "Spirit dreams inside -another dream-", which is certified gold. The group then announce it is going on a hiatus so that each member can concentrate on their own projects.

L'Arc~en~Ciel release their first single in three years, "READY STEADY GO", which is used as an opening theme for the hit anime Fullmetal Alchemist. It is later certified platinum.
L'Arc~en~Ciel celebrate their 20th anniversary with a worldwide tour, including dates in New York City at the iconic Madison Square Garden venue, making the band the first Asian rock band to headline the venue.
