In Spring, GASTUNK is formed by BABY.
BABY apparently begins on bass and vocals, but switches to just bass when vocalist YUTAKA joins.
At some point in the year, guitarist NAOKI secedes.
BABY is the only stable member around this time, so it's likely that other unknown member changes occur around this time.

Prior to this, TATSU had apparently auditioned to join THE EXECUTE as bassist to replace BABY, who had seceded from that band just prior to forming GASTUNK.
Guitarist TATSU joins.
Late in the year (just prior to YUTAKA's secession), drummer Y.MATSUMURA changes his name to KILL.
Vocalist YUTAKA secedes and is replaced by BAKI. Drummer KILL apparently changes his name back to Y.MATSUMURA.

The band joins DOGMA RECORDS.
Album release celebration national tour begins.
Live footage of the band appears on NHK's special show INDIES no Shuurai (インディーズの襲来).
The band achieves nationwide recognition after appearing at the legendary CAPTAIN RECORDS event, CAPTAIN RECORDS Hossoku Kinen GIG (キャプテンレコード発足記念GIG).
The band secedes from DOGMA RECORDS due to various problems and establish their own label, LOVE RECORDS, in partnership with MUSIC VISIONS.
As a result of the band seceding from DOGMA RECORDS, they are never again featured in the famous punk magazine DOLL, as the publication is owned by the label's parent company CITY ROCKER records.
National tour, HEARTFUL MELODY FOUR ISLANDS TOUR, begins. A single is freely distributed to attendees.

GASTUNK signs with vice, a Japanese indie/semi-major label established by MUSIC VISIONS and co-operated with NIPPON CROWN (日本クラウン), and starts recording their major debut at Mediabum Studio.
Tadanori Yokoo, a famous graphic designer for his throughout the 60s and 70s, is in charge of the sleeve illustration of their second album and major label debut UNDER THE SUN. They follow the release with the national 「UNDER THE SUN TOUR」.
UNDER THE SUN gets an international release through vice america and Pusmort, an American label founded by visual artist Pushead. At the time, he was a writer for Maximumrocknroll magazine and the artist behing most of Metallica's designs. Vocals on side A are sung in English, different to the Japanese pressing.
Two-days live held at Meguro (目黒) ROCKMAYKAN (鹿鳴館).
From February to March, GASTUNK departs to Los Angeles for the recordings of their 3rd album at Total Access Recording in Redondo Beach. During their stay, they peform at two local clubs, Whiskey A Go Go and Fender's Ballroom, with American thrash metal band Nuclear Assault as their opening act. The second concert was arranged by Metallica and James Hetfield was at the audience.
In June, the 3rd MOTHER is announced, with COUNTER-CLOCK WISE chosen as the first single. In addition, the national 「MOTHER TOUR」 starts.
Live video REVELATION is announced.
「STREET FIGHTING MAN」 event is held at Koutouku MZA Ariake. GASTUNK announces their dissolution on stage due to BABY's decision to start a music carrer in the United States.
A three-part, three-hour last live is held at Shibuya Koukaidou, including an appearance by ex-drummer MATSUMURA during "GERONIMO".
GASTANK disbands
Live revival for one-night-only to play at the 30th anniversary of the LOFT venue.
GASTUNK officially restarts.
Drummer PAZZ secedes to carry on his business as a restaurant owner. The remaining three members post messages in regards to his departure shortly afterwards.
Support drummer KEI joins.
Their first album in 33 years, VINTAGE SPIRIT, THE FACT, is announced. The successor to MOTHER is scheduled to be release by the band's new label MAD INDIAN RECORDINGS on June 9th.
Vocalist BAKI secedes and GASTUNK then go on a hiatus
GASTUNK was a non-vkei band. They were active from 1983 to 2022 and are currently paused.
