Legendary Japanese punk and metal pioneers GASTUNK are set to release their first album in 33 years, VINTAGE SPIRIT, THE FACT, due out June 9 through the band's own label MAD INDIAN RECORDINGS.
A hardcore institution whose influence on heavy metal cannot be overstated, GASTUNK not only were pioneers, they laid the framework for all things vkei by shocking everyone with never before seen visual aesthetics and music. Musicians such as hide, KIYOHARU (清春) and MORRIE have cited GASTUNK as an influence or expressed admiration for them.
Besides being their first studio work since MOTHER (released in 1988), this new album is also their first with new drummer KEI behind the kit. According to the press release, VINTAGE SPIRIT, THE FACT features 14 songs embodying everything that made the band so iconic in the first place — the distortion-heavy riffs and headbanging rhythms, energetic punk and unique melodies.
Two versions will be available. The limited edition includes liner notes written by former Rockin' F music writer Yukinobu Hasegawa.
