But a true site would be cool too. I really don't see a point in Last.fm groups and a facebook group might not be all that useful for sharing info. I think you're doing a fine job with doing small announcements via Twitter.

Maybe run Livejournal for a few months after the main site opens, at the end of each news post inform that the community is closing and a link directing them to the standalone site.

Looks like I'll have to get to work on a standalone version soon then! But I think I'll take your advice and [somehow] keep the LJ community updated if/when the standalone site goes up. (Seems like this will be a huge project!)

A standalone website would be cool to see the community expand to, Livejournal is slowly dieing. I wouldn't abandon Livejournal though but upkeeping the site and the LJ community would probably be hard. In any case, count on me donating towards the funds to run the site if the community expands.
