Apparently wearing bandages once now counts as an entire aesthetic. Iryō-kei isn't a costume you put on for a single photo and then abandon — it's a sustained visual concept. Lyrica did it once, with no MV, no lyrics, no continuation, and no actual commitment to the theme. Slapping the iryō-kei tag on them because of one outfit just empties the term of any meaning. Same with kote kei.
Tags are user voted. If you want to help, please consider creating an account so that you can vote on tags. We also have an entire channel on our Discord to ask for votes on incorrect tags.
Mostly agreed, but not the same with kote kei, this band and DazzlingBAD are great examples of modern kote kei categorically even if not completely referred to as such colloquially. This can be confirmed with Japanese consensus such as the lineage chart.
I think there's a fundamental problem with voting on tags. Many of these aesthetics — like iryō-kei or kote-kei — have objective criteria and cultural meaning. They aren't opinions or popularity contests.
Treating tags as something to be “voted on” is like voting whether a fact is real: even if it's true, enough votes against it won't change the truth, it just changes what the system says.
Accuracy and respect for the culture shouldn't depend on who clicks the buttons most.
Please feel free to join our Discord, where we have a channel called #vkgy-meta for these kinds of discussions. We would be happy to read your ideas for making the system better.
