VÄLLAN-TÄINE (バランタイン) forms in Fukuoka (福岡)福岡.
LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES states that the band was “formed in February 1989, by former DIASS members vocalist COZY, bassist WILD YAMAJUN, and drummer FUKUchan, with guitarist Hasepii recruited to join them [presumably at a later date]”.
However, a member's Facebook post directly contradicts this as he reminisces about the band forming in 1988 and recording their first demotape that same year with guitarist YUKI.
The most likely explanation is that YUKI was the original guitarist and was replaced by Hasepii in February 1989 (as bands sometimes retroactively change their formation date to the date that their lineup solidified). This would also align with the fact that YUKI (under the name KEOUGH) formed GILT FACE in January 1989.
Some sources state that drummer HIGUCHI was also an original member but this seems unlikely. Others state that guitarist TAKAO joined in 1990, but this also seems unlikely. See later note.
By this time, guitarist Masahara “YUKI” Yukio (増原“YUKI”唯夫) is presumably replaced by HASEGAWA “Hasepii” KUNIAKI (長谷川“はせぴー”城昭). Details unconfirmed.
TANIMOTO NORIAKI (谷本憲昭) acts as guest keyboardist for the band's 1991 album.
V. KAWATA “CŌZY” KOOJI (川田“CŌZY”広ニ) / G. HASEGAWA “Hasepii” KUNIAKI (長谷川“はせぴー”城昭) / B. YAMAMOTO “WILD YAMAJUN” ATSUSHI (山本“WILD YAMAJUN”淳) / D. FUKUDA “FUKUchan” ISAO (福田“FUKUちゃん”勲) / Guest K. TANIMOTO NORIAKI (谷本憲昭)
Possibly around this time or later, guitarist IWATA TAKAO (岩田たかお) and/or drummer HIGUCHI MASANORI (樋口正徳) join. Details unclear.
The history of drummer HIGUCHI is murky. Some sources state that he was an original member and was replaced by FUKUchan in 1990, but this contradicts both LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES and the aforementioned Facebook post that reminisced about the band's formation.
HIGUCHI was the drummer for DAMZELL (as confirmed by his own Instagram post about the band's 2020 reissues), but the timing is unclear. Some sources state that he was their drummer from 1986~1990, but a post about the band's 2020 reissues state that their 1987 demotape actually featured drummer Akira Inagaki. It is confirmed that HIGUCHI was the drummer for the band's 1989 CD.
HIGUCHI is also said to have been the drummer for ROBBING THE CRADLE. A three-piece mentai rock band by that name released RUN・RUN・RUN! in 1988, but the drummer for that release was NOBUTOSHI KANAZAKI(?). Their next known release was DONKEY MEN in October 1990 and that CD does credit HIGUCHI.
Additionally, some sources state that VÄLLAN-TÄINE disbanded in 1991, but this is contradicted by the fact that they released a demotape in 1992, so it is possible that HIGUCHI joined later than initially thought.
It seems most likely that HIGUCHI was in DAMZELL from 1987 or 1988 through 1990, and was then in ROBBING THE CRADLE through the end of 1990. Given that VÄLLAN-TÄINE's 1991 full album featured FUKUchan, HIGUCHI then must have joined in late 1991 or later. (For the record, the band's 2016 CD does confirm he was a member at some point.)
Similarly, TAKAO is said by some sources to have joined in 1990, but this contradicts other sources that list Hasepii as the guitarist from 1989 through at least 1991. Details are unclear.
Sometime after the release of their demotape, VÄLLAN-TÄINE disbands(?)
VÄLLAN-TÄINE revives(?).
Former guitarist Masahara “YUKI” Yukio (増原“YUKI”唯夫) and former drummer FUKUDA “FUKUchan” ISAO (福田“FUKUちゃん”勲) supposedly re-join. Details unconfirmed.
VÄLLAN-TÄINE disbands again
One-day revival is held.
Drummer FUKUDA “FUKUchan” ISAO (福田“FUKUちゃん”勲) is unable to attend as originally planned due to “being busy,” so Oota Hideo (?) (太田英夫) acts as support drummer.
One-day revival is held with almost all former members. A CD is either freely distributed or sold at the event.
