Were the vocalist's name and band inspired by the manga?
I find it interesting that they were active the same years the manga was being published

Pretty possible, some bands use name or reference from anime or other form of media. F.e there is band named Dororo (どろろ) , tho band Ugougoruga (ウゴウゴルーガ) used name of popular 90s japanese kids show , also Mucc uses their name from kids show character.

@robkun, please inform me where you have found information that YASUHIDE was in this band. I see no record of anybody named YASUHIDE being in this band, and no keyboardist in BEAST either. The only one with the same apparent band progression is bassist NAGANO, who has said that he didn't play in BANANA FISH.

I really don't understand this band. The only two lineups I see on any of their releases are "V. えーぽん (I guess that that's EIJI) / G. うめちゃん (UME) / B. ふるちゃん (unknown bassist) / D. たにくん (TANI)" and "V. EIJI / G. UME / B. AKIRA / D. TANI". The question is, were IDA and NAGANO ever bassists of the band? And who was "Furu-chan (ふるちゃん)"?

Well, according to NAGANO who allegedly was the bassist of this band, AKIRA was replaced by IDA. He has said that he didn't play in the band himself, though.
