The entertainment industry in Japan has had it rough for the last few years, especially for live houses. Most of the time, the reason why these live houses close down is due to the fact that the building or land plot that the livehouse is located on have reached the end of their leasing contract and not being renewed, so thus the tenants must move out. Or the building itself has reached the end of its shelf life and has been sold off to other developers to dismantle the old building to build a new one in its place.

The Covid-19 pandemic also exacerbated the problems for live houses that struggled financially to keep themselves afloat. Unfortunately, there are a number of them that did not survived through it and have had to close down as a result. So for VK artists and fans alike, we have mourned for the closure of beloved live houses such as Takadanobaba AREA, Ikebukuro Cyber, Shinkiba STUDIO COAST, the soon to be closed Takasaki club FLEEZ, and so on. Even Zepp is no stranger to having to see some of its beloved live houses be closed down, especially with Zepp Tokyo, their largest live house by size capacity.

That said, not all is doom and gloom as new live houses have emerged into the scene and show us a fresh new place to experience live music. So of course it brings us great joy and surprise that Zepp brings in the good news of opening up a new livehouse!

Zepp Shinjuku (TOKYO) will be located on the B1 to B4 floors of Tokyu Kabukicho Tower (東急歌舞伎町タワー) that is currently being built in Kabukicho 1-chome. Following the still currently active venues of Zepp DiverCity (TOKYO) and Zepp Haneda (TOKYO), this will be the third Zepp venue in the Tokyo region.

According to Natalie.mu, the new live house will have a seating capacity of approximately 1,500 people and a standing capacity of approximately 500 people. Due to the layout of the live house, it will be more compact than the existing Zepp venues, allowing guests to have an intimate experience. Additionally, a 360° LED vision will be permanently installed in venue, providing unique visual opportunities for artists to take advantage of on stage.

Besides Zepp Shinjuku (TOKYO), the THEATER MILANO-Za, a theater seating approximately 900 people, a movie theater, and a luxury hotel will all be housed inside Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, as according to their floor guide.

The year 2022 have shown signs that we are slowly but surely going towards a post-pandemic life as countries open up one by one and being able to travel to Japan for leisure is soon coming back. And for next year, who knows if there are more good things to come? For us in VKGY, we can't wait for next year to see which VK artist will be the first to perform in Zepp Shinjuku!
